Kalamkari is a heritage painting that evolved in and around the temples of Andhra Pradesh and hence they have the designs inspired from them. Very beautiful subtle saree with blouse! Kalamkaris are world renowned. The paints used are all natural organic dyes and that gives the subtle and earthy feel to the saree. The saree also has a zari border all along. Each one takes months to make and is a masterpiece. The painting is done by free hand.
There are two distinct styles of Kalamkari art - Srikalahasti Style and Machilipatnam Style. This one is a Srikalahasti style where in a "kalam" or a "pen" is used to do free hand drawing and painting. The motifs are inspired by temple carvings and hence includes chariots, deities, flowers and so on. The dyes for the painting is derived from various roots, leaves, minerals like iron, tin, copper, alum etc. Various effects are obtained by using cow dung, plant seeds, crushed flowers. Alum ensures the stability of the colour on the fabric. Buffalo milk is also used in making of these sarees as a part of fixing the natural dyes on the fabric. These are truly masterpieces and have been one of the heritage painting form of our country.
